DHL Express HK was honored at the Capital Outstanding Green Excellence Awards 2012 in Hong Kong. The Award recognized DHL’s ongoing commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly business practices, which include both green operations and facilities and inspiring its large local workforce to live greener lives. DHL has pledged to improve the carbon efficiency of its own operations and those of its transportation subcontractors by 30% compared to 2007 levels by the year 2020. In concrete terms, this means a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions for every letter and parcel DHL delivers, every ton of cargo transported and every square meter of warehouse space used by the year 2020. In one small step towards this goal, DHL welcomed the first hybrid truck to its fleet in Hong Kong last year. The company is also helping environmentally-savvy customers to choose sustainable logistics services, offering a pioneering carbon offset solution GOGREEN Carbon Neutral Service which has already been selected by a number of major customers. One global bank alone expects to offset approximately 2,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year with this service.
