FedEx is preparing for what it predicts will be the busiest day in its history next month. On Monday 10 December, the company expects to ship more than 19 million packages. According to the company, that’s the day most customers send their packages in order to get them to their destination by Christmas. The expected shipping of 19 million packages would be 10% more than FedEx shipped on its busiest day last year, and more than double the volume it handles on an average day. FedEx said online shopping and people mailing holiday packages would result in more than 280 million shipments passing through its US facilities in the next month. To handle the extra volumes, FedEx has taken on 20,000 temporary staff to help make the deliveries.
